Trek Overview

  Duration: 12 Days   Range: Karakoram Altitude: Min. 600m Max. 4938m Zone: Open Best Time: June - September   Rakaposhi is one of the shortest and easiest trek leading to above 7000M Karakoram peak base camp with sweeping views from Rakaposhi to Diran Peak. Minapin glacier sweep down from the 16km long fluted snowy ridge that connects the Rakaposhi and Diran Peak. The Rakaposhi base camp trek starts from the village of Minapin in Nagar Valley that sits along the Minapin River bank above the confluence of the Hunza and Minipan rivers. The excellent short and easy trek from Minapin to Rakaposhi base camp trek is ideal introduction of trekking in the Karakoram. Rakaposhi base camp trek is the easiest trek in the Karakarom and very easy access. It is 2-3 hrs from Minapin Village to Hapakun on easy trial then from Hapkun to Rakposhi base camp is also 3-4 hrs easy hike. For the Diran base camp trek need to cross the Katchelly glacier that takes 2-3 hrs on the moraine. You can do a one day excursion to base camp of Diran Peak or can spend the night in the Diran base camp. From Diran base camp you may have excursion to Katachelly Lake 2-3 hrs go and back also from base campcan make day hike to advance camp or ABC camp of Diran Peak by normal route. Around the base camp of Diran there are some peaks below 6500m called trekking peaks that you may climb them Mirshikar Sar 5450M, Pheker Peak 5480m and Katchelly Peak 5800M and also to do ski from these peaks. You can have very nice view of central Hunza and Ultar Peak from Rakapsohi base camp. Rakaposhi base camp is the ever best short trek in Nagar valley it presents a stunning outlook of Rakaposhi and Diran with adjoining glorious glacier from Tagafari. The campsite is a fantastic site used to be a polo ground with clean running water is also summer pasture of the villagers. This trek also leads to Diran base camp along the backdrop of Rakaposhi. You can do the Rakaposhi base camp trek anytime between June and October. Starting by air journey from Islamabad can lead you to the campsite in two days however traveling by road takes an additional day with overnight in Naran Valley. However traveling along the Karakoram Highway gives the equivalent charm as traveling by air. Before starting the trek we take you to the highest metaled border Khunjerab Pass connecting Pakistan with China at an altitude of 4737m. Khunjerab day excursion can easily be done in one day from Gulmit. You can have free day in Karimabad to visit Altit Fort and Baltit fort in the town. You can also spare time for a day excursion to Hopper glacier in the afternoon. Moreover if the weather is clear you can visit Duikar valley for sun rise on Rakaposhi and Diran in the morning and you can have marvelous view of Lady Finger Mountain from the spot. Well there are more and more sities hardly could be done in one day. You need several days in Hunza to explore its magnificent surroundings, cultural heritages and tiny colorful bazar equipped with antiques and ancient stuff. From Hunza Valley to Minapin village takes around an hour and half and trekking can be proceed the same time as arranging for porters is quite easy. The trek can be accomplished in five days and on fifth day you can even proceed to Gilgit directly. After sightseeing in Gilgit the next day you can drive back to Naran Valley for overnight and then to Islamabad. What fitness level is required for this trek?

Participants should have good cardiovascular endurance, regular hiking experience, and be comfortable trekking 5 to 7 hours daily over glacial terrain and moraine.

What happens in case of altitude sickness or emergency?

Our leaders carry pulse oximeters, supplementary oxygen, and emergency first-aid kits. If required, rapid helicopter evacuation protocols with Askari Aviation are coordinated immediately.
